Hunter Powell, son of Jeremiah and Amy Powell and 2024 Prairie Central graduate, was the recipient of The Juanita Harrison Nursing Scholarship.

Chenoa Women's Club presented the award on the eve, one year of her passing. His family looked on.

Juanita's children, Barbara Volpe, Janet Lagarenne, Robert Harrison and Jean Doran all spoke about their mother, her life's passion and identity in nursing and the absolute reason for funding the scholarship-helping people and giving back to her community.

Her family reinforced the absolute need to honor their mother and their mother's passion for nursing and giving back to others in the community, as others, throughout her life, saw potential in her and helped her.

Hunter was inspired around third grade by his grandmother, Vickie Powell, on a visit to Meadows Mennonite Home. He likes to help people and has decided he'd like to work with kids and be a pediatric nurse. As a student at Heartland Community College, he made the Dean's List.

Hunter’s empathy, developed through his Boy Scout program, also helped shape his desire to become a nurse.

He'd like the Harrison Family to know how grateful he is for their decision to put the time and talent into this scholarship and the applications received. He wants to make Mrs. Harrison and her family proud.
