Prairie Central Primary West in Chenoa was evacuated Thursday morning after an unusual odor was noticed by teachers in a hallway, though it was later determined the odor was harmless.
A note sent out from Prairie Central Superintendent Paula Crane said the administrator was not in the building due to her required attendance at preschool screenings in Chatsworth so teachers called 911 out of an abundance of caution. They advised staff to evacuate the building.
Emergency personnel responded to the school and investigated while students stayed outside.
“Upon conclusion of their investigation, authorities determined the odor originated from a child’s belongings and was harmless,” said Crane. “Students and staff were allowed to re-enter the building and learning has continued.”
Crane thanked the emergency personnel who responded to the call and said the school is grateful for the continued support of police and fire departments around the district.
