Obituary: Stevens

Lester Eugene Stevens, Jr, 73, of Chenoa, passed away at 3:54pm, February 28, 2022, at his residence.


Cremation has been accorded.


A celebration of life will be held at 10:00am, Friday, March 4, 2022, at the Chenoa Baptist Church. Pastor Jeff Williams will be officiating. Inurnment will be in Chenoa Township Cemetery.


Visitation was held from 5-8:00pm, Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.


Memorials may be made to Chenoa Baptist Church.


Lester was born May 11, 1948, in Mary Alice, KY the son of Lester and Ona Lee (Oliver) Stevens, Sr. He married Cheryl Bruff on October 9, 1971, in Peru, IN. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Ona Sperry of Inverness; children, Angela Lynn (Jason) Carstens of Chenoa, Jeremy Stevens of Knoxville, TN, Bridget (Kenny) Jackson of Bloomington, and Darcy (Todd) Chapman of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Quentin Stevens, Natasha Swanberg, Morgan Jackson, Spencer Jackson, Brady Chapman, and Gavyn Chapman; brother, Tom (Melanie) Stevens of Indianapolis, IN; and his special friend and beloved dog, Gracie.

He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Tim Stevens.


Lester was the Assistant Chief of Police for the Town of Chenoa. He retired in 2010.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Vietnam War.

Lester was a member of the Chenoa Baptist Church where he served as Moderator and Deacon; Chenoa VFW, Economic Development Council and Chenoa Ambulance.

Lester was an avid Blackhawks fan and enjoyed NASCAR.
