Obituary: Hetherington


Truth “Trudy” Hetherington, 82 of Chenoa, died at 7:44 am, Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at her daughter’s residence in Chenoa.


Cremation rites have been accorded with a private family graveside inurnment at Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa is in charge of arrangements.


Trudy was born March 6, 1941 in Bellflower; the daughter of Erma (Collier) Siegmund. She married Edward Hetherington in 1967. He preceded her in death July 2, 1999. Her mother, one brother, Donald Siegmund and one sister, Lily Hope Gillespie also preceded her in death.


Survivors include one daughter, Robin (Gary) Lopeman of Chenoa; two sons, William (Dawn Golliday) Hetherington of Bloomington; David Hetherington of Pontiac; her companion in life, Dean Fellers of Cornell and his children, Penny (Mark) Wills, Brenda (Melvin Diaz) Fellers both of Coal City; and Jeff (Cathy Strait) Fellers of Cornell; one sister, Joyce Wilkins of Chenoa; one brother, William (Irma) Siegmund of Colorado.


Other survivors include her adored grandchildren, Haley (Terry Bumgarner) Hetherington of Pontiac; Chris (Sarah) Hetherington of Lafayette, IN; Zack (Lindsey Barickman) Lopeman of Chenoa; Taija (Kyle Fuchs) Hetherington of Pontiac; four great grandchildren, Harley, Odin and Eleanor Hetherington and Abel Fuchs as well as numerous nieces and nephews and was especially close to Marilyn and Bobby Gillespie.


Trudy enjoyed Late Model Stock Car racing and traveled throughout the Midwest to see them. She enjoyed playing a good card game and could easily be talked into playing any game with her grandchildren. She could usually be found with a cold Pepsi in one hand and a damn cigarette in the other. She loved her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
