ISP trooper attacked near Chenoa

Kent Casson

An arraignment is scheduled later this month for the driver of a passenger vehicle who is accused of becoming aggressive and attacking an Illinois State Police trooper near Chenoa on May 25.

A vehicle was stopped by the trooper on the northbound lanes of Interstate 55 at Milepost 186 in the afternoon for a traffic violation. According to police, the driver and sole occupant did not possess a valid driver’s license.

State Police report the driver attacked the officer while waiting for a tow truck. The suspect then attempted to steal the tow truck which had just arrived on the scene. A taser was reportedly used on the suspect before he was taken into custody.

“No further information will be disseminated,” said a news release from ISP.

Dashcam video of the incident was obtained by a local television station through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Multiple media outlets have reported a passerby, who had a concealed carry license, stopped to help the trooper and pointed his gun at the suspect.
