No one was injured after an overnight structure fire in the 600 block of Mason Street.
Chenoa Fire Chief Troy Aldrich reports a garage, which is where the fire started, was a total loss. There was some damage to the nearby home but everyone escaped safely.
Firefighters received the call at 2:21 a.m. Saturday and assistance came from the Gridley, Lexington, Fairbury and Pontiac fire departments.
A popping or banging noise was reportedly observed by the occupants, who looked down a hallway and saw the glow which is when they woke up their kids, got the family dog and ran out the home’s front door.
Items lost in the garage included a couple of vehicles and a golf cart. The State Fire Marshal has been to the scene and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
