After moving an entire library during 2020 with only a soft opening, the new Chenoa Library will have a grand opening celebration this Friday (Aug. 6) from 4-7 p.m. at 230 South Green Street.

A ribbon cutting with the mayor is planned for 4 p.m. along with tours, music, scavenger hunt, giveaways, a local author corner and light refreshments. You can even have your picture taken with celebrity pig, Hammy.

Eric Elder will speak about his books and music at 5 and 6 p.m. The Chenoa native has written over 30 books, including a novel about the real life St. Nicholas who lived in the third century. He has also recorded three albums of piano music. Elder’s book about St. Nicholas, St. Nicholas: The Believer, has been turned into a musical called “His Name was Nicholas.” It will be staged this Christmas in Streator.
