The Fairbury Area Chamber of Commerce is bringing some extra light to area communities during the holiday season.
Chenoa is included in the “Light Up Our Towns” Christmas decorating contest. Residential entries will have three categories: traditional decorations, modern decorations and best Christmas spirit. First place per town receives a $120 gift card to local businesses and a yard sign and the second and third place winners also receive gift cards.
Business entries have one category of Best Christmas spirit with one winner per town. The winner receives a yard sign and picture of their business on the Fairbury Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.
“It’s just another way to kind of keep people shopping local for the holidays,” said Kirk Leman, Fairbury Area Chamber of Commerce president. “We are just trying to lift the spirit.”
Entry forms must be filled out and submitted to the Chamber office in Fairbury by Dec. 1 to be entered. Forms can be dropped in the box in front of the Chamber building, 101 East Locust Street, or mailed to the same address.
Forms are available at Chenoa Pharmacy and Casey’s in Chenoa.
The Chamber hopes all area businesses participate in the contest, even if they do not wish to enter for prizes. Organizers say this is the perfect way to welcome the Christmas season since there is no Fairbury Christmas parade this year. The downtown park, gazebo and Fairbury Chamber office will be decorated for Christmas and they are looking for extension cords and timers. Anyone wishing to donate can drop off items across the street at Aftershock.
A nativity has been purchased for the park thanks to a donation from Bluestem Bank, branch of Bank of Pontiac. The bank typically sponsors horse and carriage rides at the parade and has donated the money to the “Light Up Our Towns” campaign.
Judging takes place during the evening of Monday, Dec. 7. Rules and entry forms can be found and printed from www.fairburychamber.com/events.
