Crashes south of town Sunday evening

A pair of crashes south of Chenoa Sunday evening are under investigation.

The first incident occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. near Lexington and involved four vehicles which were all traveling north on Interstate 55 at milepost 178 in the left lane.

State Police say one of the vehicles slowed due to traffic in a construction zone, causing a chain-reaction accident. A passenger and driver were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported. Ambulances from Lexington, Normal and Gridley responded.

Chenoa fire and police and SELCAS responded to another accident a few miles south of town on Old Route 66 around 7 p.m. The head-on collision resulted in the two drivers going to the hospital with injuries, although their names or conditions are not known at this time.
